Porcelain Veneers for a Confident, Long-Lasting Smile
If you have been thinking about changing your smile but are not sure where to start, porcelain veneers are one of the most versatile and rewarding options available. They cover chips, cracks, staining, gaps, and mild misalignment in a single treatment and deliver results that hold up for years. At East Cooper Dental, we provide cosmetic dentistry for West Ashley patients who want a smile they can feel confident in. Veneers are one of the services patients ask for most.
Dr. Warner has been practicing in Mount Pleasant since 2002. Our office is a straightforward drive from West Ashley, and the patients who make that trip are looking for cosmetic results they can feel confident in for years.
Why West Ashley Patients Choose East Cooper Dental for Veneers
Choosing a cosmetic dentist for veneers is a significant decision. The work is visible every time you smile, and the outcome depends on the clinician’s eye for proportion, color, and natural-looking results as much as it does on the quality of the materials.
Cosmetic dentistry is as much about judgment as technique. Veneers have to look right at every angle, in every light, and years from now. Dr. Warner takes time to understand what you want to change, walks you through what is realistic for your specific teeth and bite, and designs a plan that fits your face rather than a catalog template. The consultation is a real conversation, not a sales appointment.
Our patients reflect that approach: 4.9 stars across 350+ Google reviews. You can see the same commitment to cosmetic outcomes in our veneers page for Charleston patients and our veneers page for Mount Pleasant patients.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
A porcelain veneer is a thin, custom-crafted shell of dental-grade ceramic bonded to the front surface of a tooth. Each veneer is designed to match the shape, proportion, and color of the surrounding teeth, or to improve on them depending on your goals.
Veneers are a conservative cosmetic option because they require minimal removal of the natural tooth structure. A small amount of enamel is reduced to allow the veneer to sit flush with the surrounding teeth, and then the veneer is permanently bonded in place. The result is a new outer surface for the tooth that looks natural and resists staining better than enamel alone.
According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), porcelain veneers are one of the most widely used cosmetic dental treatments for smile improvement because of their durability, aesthetics, and versatility.
What Can Veneers Fix?
Veneers address a wide range of cosmetic concerns in a single treatment. West Ashley patients come to us for veneers to correct:
- Staining that does not respond to whitening. Deep intrinsic staining from tetracycline, fluorosis, or other causes cannot be resolved with whitening products. Veneers cover the tooth entirely, so the color starts fresh.
- Chips and cracks. A chipped front tooth or a series of small cracks changes the appearance of a smile significantly. Veneers restore the edge and surface of the tooth.
- Gaps between teeth. Minor spacing between teeth can be closed with veneers without orthodontic treatment.
- Mild misalignment. Teeth that are slightly turned or overlapping can often be visually corrected with veneers, avoiding braces in some cases.
- Worn or shortened teeth. Teeth that have been ground down over time or that are naturally short can be brought back to proper proportion with veneers.
- Uneven tooth sizes. A tooth that is noticeably smaller or differently shaped than its neighbors can be brought into harmony with the surrounding smile.
Veneers work best when the underlying teeth are healthy. If there are structural issues (significant decay, fractures that go into the root, or active gum disease), those need to be addressed first. Our West Ashley dental team will assess your overall oral health before any cosmetic treatment begins.
Are You a Good Candidate for Veneers?
Most adults with healthy teeth and gums who want to improve the appearance of their smile are candidates for porcelain veneers. Key factors we evaluate include:
Healthy underlying teeth. Veneers are a cosmetic treatment, not a restorative one. Teeth with significant decay, root damage, or fractures extending below the gumline are not appropriate candidates for veneers.
Sufficient enamel. The veneer bonding process requires a small amount of enamel removal. Patients with very thin enamel may not have enough to safely accommodate veneers.
No active grinding. Bruxism (teeth grinding) puts significant force on veneers and can cause them to chip or crack. Patients who grind their teeth are not automatically disqualified, but we address the grinding pattern (usually with a nightguard) as part of the treatment plan.
Realistic expectations. Veneers can make dramatic improvements, but they work within the limits of your existing tooth structure and bite. The consultation is where we align on what is achievable and what the result will look like.
The Veneer Process at
East Cooper Dental
Step 1: Consultation and Smile Assessment
We start with a full evaluation of your teeth, gums, and bite. Dr. Warner discusses what you want to change, reviews your candidacy, and works through the design elements: the shade, shape, and number of veneers that will achieve your goal. This is a collaborative process, not a prescription.
Step 2: Preparation
A small, precise amount of enamel is removed from the front surface of each tooth receiving a veneer. This creates space for the veneer to bond flush with the surrounding teeth. Temporary veneers are placed while your permanent ones are being fabricated in the dental lab.
Step 3: Fabrication
Your veneers are custom-made by a dental laboratory from impressions or digital scans taken at the preparation visit. Fabrication typically takes one to two weeks.
Step 4: Bonding
At the final appointment, the temporary veneers are removed and your permanent veneers are tried in for fit, color, and bite alignment. Once you and Dr. Warner are satisfied with the result, the veneers are permanently bonded to the teeth using dental adhesive and a curing light.
Step 5: Follow-Up
We schedule a brief follow-up visit to confirm the veneers are seated properly, the bite feels comfortable, and you are happy with the outcome.
How Long Do Veneers Last?
With proper care, porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 15 years or longer. The lifespan depends on how well they are maintained and whether any habits (grinding, using teeth to open packages, biting nails) are putting unnecessary stress on the porcelain.
Care is straightforward: brush twice daily, floss regularly, and maintain your routine dental checkups. Avoid biting into very hard foods directly with veneered teeth. If you grind at night, wearing your nightguard consistently is the single most important thing you can do to extend the life of your veneers.
